How are you, my friend?

I’m just popping by say hello and to remind you to create a tiny moment of celebration for yourself (or someone else) today.

Why? Because our time on this planet is kinda short and the years go by quickly. You deserve to have as many lit-up moments as possible.

We all do!

Today, I’m celebrating reaching out to ask for connection.

There is literally an epidemic of loneliness happening. We need to reach out to one another! For our own sake — and for other people, too.

It can feel kind of vulnerable to reach out when we are lonely, sad, or scared. But that is exactly the medicine we need!

I’m proud of myself this week for sending those “Hey, can you talk?” texts. I’m celebrating the “walkie-talkie” in which I call a friend while I am out walking so I’m getting my steps in along with beautiful connection and conversation.

I’m celebrating texts and emails and video calls and outings and dinners and ALL the ways we get to feel connected to the people we love.

If you are feeling down or blue, reach out. A friend is there for you.

If you are feeling happy, reach out. A friend may need you!

If you need some inspiration, Mary Oliver’s dog can help!

Little Dog’s Rhapsody in the Night

by Mary Oliver

He puts his cheek against mine

and makes small, expressive sounds.

And when I’m awake, or awake enough

he turns upside down, his four paws

in the air

and his eyes dark and fervent.

Tell me you love me, he says.

Tell me again.

Could there be a sweeter arrangement?  Over and over

he gets to ask it.

I get to tell.

(This poem is from “Dog Songs,” published by Penguin Press in 2013)

Feed your heart some sweet friendship and connection, okay?

As always, if you experience a moment of celebration today, click reply and tell me about it! I love to hear!

Seek celebration — even in the dark corners,

P.S. My friend Brittany and I had a spontaneous conversation about friendship and being closer. We live-streamed it. Here’s the replay of “Making Connection During the Loneliness Epidemic” if you want to watch and add your thoughts. We would love to hear!

P.P.S If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, please join Brittany and me for a one-day retreat called “Better Together.”  This is going to be an amazing day filled with authentic connections and new friends!
