It’s sunflower season! I don’t know about where you are, but ’round here, we can buy bunches of ‘em for $5. Five for $5 usually.

Last week, on a whim, I bought a bunch and put them in five separate vases all around the apartment. One in the bathroom (cut short, in a small blue vase for the basin), one in my office, one on the kitchen table (not cut at all; standing tall), one in the bedroom, and one in the foyer. (Foyer is a weird word, isn’t it? We don’t even have a foyer. I’m not sure why that word jumped onto the page!)

Anyway, those flowers are so durned happy! Their big yellow faces are beaming at me from everywhere. And they make me happy every single time I see one of them. Which is often, being as they are all over the place.

So, I posted this on Facebook, but in case you missed it, I wanted to post here, too: Buy yourself some sunflowers and watch what happens. I dare you. I double dog dare you!

P.S. I know we’re in a recession and you could argue that there are a lot of better places to put that money to use. And maybe you’re right. But it is such a small price to pay for such big, bold happiness. And really, is there any way to measure the value of feeling good in our lives?

P.P.S. If you do buy yourself some sunflowers, will you comment below and let me know what it was like?
