Anyone who has ever taken public buses in an urban area knows how frustrating — and potentially depressing — it can be sometimes. Here in San Francisco, our buses are notoriously late and overcrowded. Which is why I really loved this heartwarming story about bus driver who decorated her bus with balloons and streamers as a way to thank her passengers.
Here’s what one rider said: “As I sit in the bus watching new passengers board, I witness a Muni miracle: a sea of frowns turn into big grins as people enter and see what awaits them. I overhear nearly every newcomer commenting on the scene to either Tammy or their fellow strap-hangers. ‘How cool is this?’”
How cool indeed. I love that so many Muni riders got to be surprised and delighted. And I love that it was all because one woman stepped outside the ordinary to create something memorable and extraordinary.
Yay to SF Muni driver, Tammy!!! She inspires me to want to create joy in a situation that is generally not so fun.
Have you ever experienced anything like this? Would love to hear…
