SIMPLY CELEBRATE NEWSLETTER MARCH 2012

When my son, Kayne,  was three years old and it was his birthday, I told him to close his eyes and make a wish before he blew out the candles on the cake.

He did.

And when he opened his eyes, I whispered, "What did you wish for?" And he said, "A birthday cake."

Wishing for what we have. How brilliant. I will never forget how powerful that moment was for me.

I've been leading a class called "Talk Yourself into the Life You Want: Turning Scarcity into Abundance." The most recent class was all about "wishing for what you have," based on that teaching from my son.

Hopefully someday you'll take the class with me. But in the meantime, I wanted to share this one exercise in hopes that you'll love it as much as I do.

I do this simple exercise every once in a while to remind myself of the abundance in my life. I make a wish list. And everything on the wish list is something I already have.

All you need to do is set a timer for three minutes. Then just write what you wish for. Think about the people in your life, things you can see, things you love, things on your shelves or in your closet, whatever.

Here are a few examples from one of my lists:

  • I wish for a funny, smart, lovable son.
  • I wish for the sound of the nightingale.
  • I wish for the ability to see the color purple.
  • I wish for my breath, in and out, one more moment of life.
  • I wish for the ability to write words on paper.
  • I wish for the ability to stand up and walk on my own.
  • I wish for the taste of an apple, juicy and sweet.
  • I wish for the sound of a meditation bell in the middle of the day.
  • I wish for the memory of a warm hug from someone I love.
  • I wish for the beauty of a tall tree, with many branches.
  • I wish for the feeling of rain on my face.

Your turn. Get out a timer or the alarm on your phone. Set it for three minutes. (Or even ONE minute!). Then write. Watch how you feel.

P.S. I'd love to hear your thoughts after you try this exercise. If you're reading this via email, click here. Otherwise, if you're live on the blog page, just scroll down and you can comment. I'm sorry that only Facebook users can comment right now. I was getting tons of spam and this was one way to easily solve it. If you're not a FB user, I'm happy to post your comment for you, if you email me.
