I’m glad you are here.
Today I send you the beautiful and haunting honking of Canadian geese.
I send you the zip-zip sound of two hummingbirds just feet away.
I send you the sweet smell of lavender as you rub it between your fingers and under your nose.
Thank you for being here.

In today’s audio LoveGram, we are exploring one aspect of Walt Whitman’s famous line, “We contain multitudes.”
Some of you may remember the story I tell about the first time I realized that joy and well-being are possible, even during some of our hardest or darkest times.
I used to think those hard times were solid. They felt like an iron wall, which didn’t let anything in.
Then one day, during a meditation session more than thirty years ago, I felt a wave of contentment smack dab in the middle of depression.
It was like a tiny pinprick of light in that iron wall.
That one tiny moment taught me something I’ve never forgotten: our hardest days are rarely as solid as they seem. There are almost always little openings where love, beauty, or wonder can slip in.
Ever since that moment, I’ve practiced noticing those pinpricks of light for myselfβand creating them for others.
I explore this decades-old practice a little deeper today in my audio to you. I hope you enjoy it!

Seek celebration β even in dark corners,

π P.S. The poem I quote from today is Mary Oliver’s “Wild Geese.” There is a new documentary out about her called “Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World.” It was playing at our local arthouse theater. If it comes to your town, I encourage you to go!
