Dear Delightful You,

Hello my friend!

I’m popping by on a Friday afternoon. Just checking in on you.

I wanted to remind you of this: Whether you are feeling buoyant or blue, you are loved.

Whether you need a pick-me-up or you have lots of get-up-and-go, you are loved.

However this week is going, I know that you are doing your best and you can let everything go that weighs you down — even for just this moment.

Take a deep breath and know that you belong — exactly as you are.

This morning, on my way to my wonderful outdoor Zumba class, I noticed this chalk heart on the sidewalk. (See photo above).

I paused to take a photo. And in doing so, I had a comforting insight: love often shows up unexpectedly.

I silently thanked the person who had created that chalk art and as I was walking away, I thought: “I welcome in more unexpected love today.”

When I got to my dance class, everyone seemed extra smiley. The dogs and kids at the park were extra cute. I found myself reaching out to meet people I didn’t know and to greet those I do know.

One little toddler girl was holding a pink balloon and bouncing happily to the music. Whenever I looked at her, I would wave and she would do that happy wiggle that shy babies do. She was all LOVE.

I felt so happy, despite all the hard stuff in the world. It’s not like there isn’t war and fear and poverty and political divide. I know that is there. And yet, there is also plenty of love.

It felt good to bask in it.

Later in the morning, when I met a friend for a walk in Glen Park Canyon, I passed another chalk heart.

Aha.

What you seek is what you get.

Listen, my friend: you are not alone.

We’re all in this together.

I’m here with you.

Each of us can do our best to bring ourselves —and others— a tiny bit of joy, no matter what.

What do you want? What are you missing? Can you find a little slice of it someplace unexpected?

Ask for help.

Seek the light. Seek the love.

Seek celebration — even in the dark corners,
