Will you do this?03-13-2019
I’ve been thinking a lot about small things that change our lives.
When I’m coaching people, they often think they have to make big changes in order to feel happier, healthier, or more successful. But the truth is, one tiny shift or one small new habit can have a profound effect.
Success Magazine editor, Darren Hardy, wrote a book called “The Compound Effect,” which talks about this. It really doesn’t take a lot to head us in the direction of the life we dream about. It’s just that our ole Squawky Polly minds will often tell us it’s all too hard or we have to do so much.
That’s not true.
It doesn’t have to be so hard.
I want you to test this out today.
I have a small kindness action I challenge you to do.
Since I recently finished the Secret Agents of Change, I’ve got secret agents and spy stuff on my mind.
So let’s call this a “tiny mission.”
Will you choose to accept it?
Here’s what I want you to do today: Think about someone to whom you’ve been feeling like you need to reach out or connect. Maybe you missed a friend’s birthday. Maybe you dropped the ball on setting up a time to talk. Maybe you’re simply long overdue in connecting with someone that you love. Maybe someone is grieving and you’ve felt awkward about what to do or say.
I want you to take the challenge of sending a one-line note in the mail to this person.
(If it hard for you to get to a postal box, you could also send a one-line text or email. But snail mail has such a charm these days since so few people make that effort!)
Just one line.
“I love you so much and I’ve been remiss in reaching out … please know that I’m thinking of you with gratitude and joy.”
Or, “You’ve been on my mind for so long and I’ve wanted to reach out to say ______.”
Sign your name and send it off.
THEN, I want you to watch what happens.
How did that feel? What did you notice in your body? Was there a shift in energy?
I’m betting the farm that this one small action will give you a big spark of oomph.
You know why? Because it is putting your love into action. And when we put love in action, there is an instant momentum, an instant movement toward the light.
Actually, putting love into action turns us into light! (Wheeee!)
Let me know how it goes, okay?
Seek celebration — even in the dark corners,
